Suzan Colón is the author of Cherries in Winter: My Family’s Recipe for Hope in Hard Times, published in paperback by Anchor. She has written cover stories, personal essays, and food features for O, the Oprah Magazine; Marie Claire; Jane; Details; Harper’s Bazaar; Seventeen; The Advocate; Mademoiselle; Rolling Stone; and other magazines.

The list of celebrities Suzan has interviewed includes Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Natalie Portman, Renee Zellweger, Janet Jackson, Reese Witherspoon, Susan Sarandon, Eartha Kitt, Pamela Anderson, Viggo Mortensen, Christian Slater, Benjamin Bratt, Julie Newmar, Monica Lewinsky, and her mother’s personal favorite, Tom Jones.

Suzan began her career in writing as an intern at Star Hits Magazine, where she interviewed 1980s pop luminaries such as Duran Duran and Billy Idol. In the 1990s, she began writing relationship-based essays for Details Magazine while contributing celebrity and music features to YM, Rolling Stone, Spin, and other publications. She was then one of the first editors hired to form Jane Magazine, where she wrote celebrity cover stories and relationship features.

After a brief foray into the dot-com world in 2000, Suzan became a contributing editor at both Mademoiselle and Latina magazines. During this time, she was asked by DC Comics and Chronicle Books to write Catwoman: The Life and Times of a Feline Fatale and What Would Wonder Woman Do? An Amazon’s Guide to the Working World, tributes to two of the comic book world’s favorite characters. She also wrote three original young adult novels based on the TV series Smallville for DC and Little, Brown, as well as several Batman-themed children’s books.

In 2005, Suzan launched Cosmo Radio for Cosmopolitan Magazine and Sirius/XM Satellite Radio and was then brought in as a writer and editor at O, the Oprah Magazine. It was during her time at O that Suzan began writing the personal and food essays that would become the basis of Cherries in Winter.

Suzan, who has also been a yoga instructor and a bartender, met her husband and chief recipe tester Nathan on a yoga retreat. They live in Hudson County in New Jersey with two rescued cats.
