In the 1990s, she began writing relationship-based essays for Details Magazine while contributing celebrity and music features to YM, Rolling Stone, Spin, and other publications. She was then one of the first editors hired to form Jane Magazine, where she wrote celebrity cover stories and relationship features. After a brief foray into the dot-com world in 2000, Suzan became a contributing editor at both Mademoiselle and Latina magazines. During this time, she was asked by DC Comics and Chronicle Books to write Catwoman: The Life and Times of a Feline Fatale and What Would Wonder Woman Do? An Amazon’s Guide to the Working World, tributes to two of the comic book world’s favorite characters. She also wrote three original young adult novels based on the TV series Smallville for DC and Little, Brown, as well as several Batman-themed children’s books. In 2005, Suzan launched Cosmo Radio for Cosmopolitan Magazine and Sirius/XM Satellite Radio and was then brought in as a writer and editor at O, the Oprah Magazine. It was during her time at O that Suzan began writing the personal and food essays that would become the basis of Cherries in Winter.
